Stratolaunch, LLC Staff Rocket Engine Advisor in United States

Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.

To achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Staff Rocket Engine Advisor to oversee the development of the Talon-A rocket engine. Tasking will include internal and external technical advisement on the development of a liquid rocket engine and the support of qualification and acceptance tests for the rocket engine. An ideal candidate will have extensive liquid rocket engine design and test experience. This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data. Candidates must have an aerospace development background and relevant experience in rocket engine development.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Support and advise on the design and development of a liquid rocket engine

  • Support and advise on the qualification and acceptance testing of a liquid rocket engine

  • Regular and comprehensive communication to the Talon-A Propulsion Lead

  • Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems

  • Travel, as needed, to support the department

  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

Required

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: liquid rocket engine design, fluid subsystem design, mechanical design, metal structural engineering and analysis, component or assembly level mechanical testing, liquid rocket engine testing, cryogenic fluid system design, 3D metal printing

  • Experience with component and subsystem level test planning and execution

  • Experience with ground testing of liquid rocket engines

  • Ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences to explain rationale and/or resolve concerns

  • Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals

  • Complex aerospace system development

  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Required Computer Skills

  • Computer Aided Design tools – Solidworks or CATIA V5

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Preferred

  • Experience with cryogenic fluid system design

  • Experience with turbomachinery

  • Experience with thermal and structural analysis

  • Experience with metal 3D printed flight hardware

  • Aircraft and/or launch vehicle development experience

  • Security clearance

Education/experience/certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 10-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Remarks

  • Travel estimated to be approximately <= 20%

  • Position is based in Denver, Colorado
