Stratolaunch Fluids Engineer in Seattle, Washington

Stratolaunch, founded in 2011 by Paul G. Allen, is developing an air-launch platform to make access to space more convenient, reliable, and routine. We believe that normalizing access to low Earth orbit (LEO) has the potential to redefine our lives by creating more opportunities for commercial, philanthropic and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology from space.

To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs Fluids Engineers to lead development of our architecture. This includes development and implementation of various segments of the architecture, including aircraft, launch vehicle, and ground elements. Stratolaunch is looking for both individual contributors and engineering managers to lead this effort.

As a Stratolaunch Engineer, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of your particular area of expertise. You are responsible the design, development, requirements, verification, and test execution of your specific area. You must be comfortable with component/system development and integration. This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data. Position will provide technical leadership for Stratolaunch. Candidates must have an aerospace development background and relevant experience in aerospace systems integration.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead or contribute toaircraft fluid systems, including working with current systems and new developments, including hydraulic and pneumatic

  • Lead or contribute to integration of the carrier aircraft fluid systems with launch vehicles

  • Develop requirement verification activitiesin the fluids systems engineering discipline

  • Perform test verification activitiesin the fluids systemsengineering discipline

  • Perform design and/or analysis to support component development

  • Lead test procedure development and test execution

  • Contribute to aerospace systems integration with interface and requirements development

  • Develop engineering tools, as needed, to complete their tasking.

  • Provide technical guidance for specific projects within the larger program with responsibility for technical performance of the project.

  • Analyze technical data for various projects, such as subsystem and component designs, system analyses, system margins, test and operations plans

  • Evaluate risks and risk mitigation plans to determine if the risks are appropriate and risk mitigations are adequate

  • Regular and comprehensive communication to the Engineering leadership on a weekly and monthly basis

  • Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems

  • Travel, as needed, to support the department

  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines:hydraulic fluids, pneumatic fluids, internal fluid flow, aircraft and/or launch vehicle integration

  • Experience with technical aerospace leadership, including working with sub-contractors

  • Experience with requirements development, with a focus on interface management

  • Experience with risk management

  • Facilitation skills and ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences to gain support or resolve concerns

  • Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals

  • Complex aerospace system development

  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities


  • Aircraft and/or launch vehicle development experience

  • Experience with government agencies

  • Experience with air-launch programs

  • Security clearance

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from accredited institution and 3-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
