Stratolaunch, LLC Structural Engineer in Mojave, California
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch test platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to utilize the capabilities of the Stratolaunch Carrier Aircraft and air-launch test vehicles to enable development of technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch strives to create technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic, and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch is seeking a Structural Engineer to contribute to the final structures development and loads evaluation of our carrier aircraft. Additionally, this position needs to support launch vehicle integration and test activities.
As a Structural Engineer , you are responsible for leading the remaining structural development of the carrier aircraft through its flight envelope expansion program and preparing for launch vehicle integration. As a Sr. Structural Engineer, you are responsible for contributing to the carrier aircraft’s structural technical performance, including meeting design and mission requirements, resolving technical challenges, and implementing technology upgrades that improve the competitive basis of the Stratolaunch architecture. This position is based in Mojave, CA. Candidates must have strong aircraft development and operational background, facilities experience, and relevant experience in aircraft systems integration.
Primary: Responsible Engineer for Carrier Aircraft primary structures
Primary: Select assignments on the hypersonic launch vehicle related to elevated-temperature material systems and thermal protection systems
Support: Structural and Mechanical Systems Integration into the Carrier Aircraft
Perform hand-calculations and first-order assessments to support vehicle trade studies
Perform detailed design and analysis for structural sizing
Perform detailed design / build / test activities
Support flight test operations
Support risk management activities (identification, evaluation, mitigation)
Provide regular and comprehensive communications to program management
Travel, as needed, to support the company
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments
Expertise in aerospace engineering principles
Expertise with aircraft primary structural design and analysis
Experience with requirements development and verification
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
REQUIRED COMPUTER SKILLS
CAD (CATIA, Solidworks, and/or CREO)
MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
BS or MS degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field
6 years of relevant industry experience

Some travel (<10%) may be required
