Stratolaunch, LLC Structural Engineer I in Mojave, California
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic, and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Structural Engineer I to contribute to the final structures development and loads evaluation of our carrier aircraft.
As a Structural Engineer I , you may be responsible for contributing to the carrier aircraft’s structural technical performance, including meeting design and mission requirements, resolving technical challenges, and implementing technology upgrades that improve the competitive basis of the Stratolaunch architecture. This position is based in Mojave, CA. Candidates must have strong aircraft development and operational background, facilities experience, and relevant experience in aircraft systems and structure integration.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Contribute to the structural design for the final modifications and flight envelope expansion period of our carrier aircraft program
Evaluate the carrier aircraft loads and the resulting margins against structural requirements
Contribute to the design and implementation of structural modifications required for the carrier aircraft to achieve its design and mission requirements
Help resolve technical challenges, as they arise, for the carrier aircraft structures
Contribute to risk evaluations for Air Launch programs
Regular and comprehensive communication to the department lead on a weekly and monthly basis
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Travel, as needed, to support the company

Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: structures, loads, mechanical systems, aircraft systems, aircraft operations, launch vehicle integration, ground systems
Experience with technical aerospace leadership, including working with sub-contractors
Experience with risk management
Facilitation skills and ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences to present technical solutions and resolve questions
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Complex aerospace system development
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
Experience with large transport aircraft
Finite element modeling
Experience with external stores
Experience with air-launch programs
Required computer skills
CAD (CATIA, Solidworks, and/or CREO)
FEA (NASTRAN, FEMAP)
MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from an accredited institution and/or 2-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
