Stratolaunch, LLC Staff Propulsion Test Engineer in Mojave, California
Position Summary
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic, and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Staff Propulsion Test Engineer to support ground qualification and acceptance testing of a liquid rocket engine propulsion system. Tasking may include the development of test article hardware and facilities, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, test plans and reports, along with acting as test conductor in the control room. An ideal candidate will have liquid rocket engine development and ground hot-fire test experience. This position will include the evaluation of a broad range of technical data. Candidates must have an aerospace development background and relevant experience in liquid rocket engine systems integration.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Act as Test Conductor for hot-fire ground tests
Conduct test operations as an engineer in the control room and direct others, as required
Manage the propulsion test stand data acquisition system and Plumbing and Instrumentation Diagram
Develop and document test requirements, plans, procedures, and reports
Develop hardware for the propulsion test stand and associated facilities
Conduct propulsion test stand system analyses and studies in support of test activities
Support the development and application of the test stand control systems
Prepare and lead test stand Test Readiness Reviews and post-test Data Reviews
Assist mechanics in integrating components and assemblies onto the propulsion test stand
Test propulsion components and/or assemblies to prepare for integrated ground testing
Develop engineering tools, as needed, to complete their tasking
Regular and comprehensive communication to the Talon-A Propulsion Test Lead
Travel, as needed, to support the program
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

Required
Experience with liquid rocket engine ground testing
Experience with writing and developing test plans, procedures, and reports
Experience working in the field, as required, to prepare the site for engine testing
Experience with instrumentation and component calibration
Experience with component-level or subsystem level test planning and execution
Ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences to explainrationale and/or resolve concerns
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
Required Computer Skills
Computer Aided Design tools – Solidworks or CATIA V5
MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred
Experience acting as a Test Conductor
Experience leading Test Readiness Reviews
Experience with liquid oxygen systems
IADS experience
Matlab/Simulink/Simscape experience
National Instruments data acquisition experience
National Instruments Labview experience
Security clearance
Education/experience/certifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 10-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
