Stratolaunch, LLC Staff Propulsion Integration Engineer in Mojave, California
Stratolaunch is developing hypersonic vehicles to support various Department of Defense and commercial applications. Stratolaunch needs a Staff Propulsion Integration Engineer to support the analysis and integration of hypersonic air-breathing propulsion systems. Candidates must have a strong propulsion background, with experience in hypersonic propulsion. Experience with aerospace vehicle design and propulsion analyses across the speed range from subsonic to hypersonic, is highly desired.
As a Staff Propulsion Integration Engineer , you will be a member of the propulsion design team, reporting to the Stratolaunch Talon-A Propulsion Lead. You will contribute to the propulsion design and integration of Stratolaunch hypersonic vehicles. You will perform design trade studies by parametrically evaluating a variety of air-breathing hypersonic propulsion systems, including ramjet, scramjet, and dual mode engines. You will identify sub-contractors with hypersonic propulsion systems in development and evaluate combability with Stratolaunch vehicle capability.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Perform analytical and numerical analyses to evaluate air-breathing hypersonic propulsion systems, such as ramjet, scramjet, and dual mode engines
Develop propulsion models for a variety of air-breathing hypersonic configurations
Support design and vehicle integration of various types of hypersonic propulsion systems
Identify hypersonic propulsion sub-contractors and evaluate the compatibility with Stratolaunch vehicles
Contribute to development of propulsion models using analytical, numerical, and ground test data
Contribute to advanced design tool development
Help resolve technical challenges, as required
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Support the preparation of business proposals to the US Government and industry
Travel, as needed, to support the company

Knowledge of, and experience in propulsion, preferably hypersonic air-breathing propulsion, and aircraft/aerospace vehicle design
Experience with subsonic, transonic, supersonic, and hypersonic propulsion design and analyses
Experience with hypersonic propulsion development and/or test
Strong background in propulsion, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Complex aerospace system development
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
Ability to obtain a security clearance at the TS/SCI level
Experience with integrating air-breathing propulsion systems onto high-speed vehicles
Experience with CFD, both internal and external flow
Experience with complex 3D surface lofting
Experience with computer-aid design (CAD) software tools
Active security clearance
Required computer skills
MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Relevant propulsion analysis tools
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in engineering, physics, or mathematics from an accredited institution and 10-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special remarks regarding work environment
Travel estimated to be approximately 10% or less.
