Stratolaunch, LLC Staff Propulsion Engineer in Mojave, California
Position Summary
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not otherwise exist. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic, and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Senior Propulsion Engineer to design and analyze propellant and pressurant delivery systems. Tasking will include the design and architecture of fluid propulsion systems, the sourcing and selection of rocket engine valves and components, and the data analysis of propulsion ground testing. An ideal candidate will have both fluid subsystem design and analysis experience, along with test data analysis experience. You must be comfortable with supporting your design through the entire design life cycle – from conceptual through integration and test. This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data. Candidates must have an aerospace development background and relevant experience in propulsion system development.
Essential Responsibilities
Design and analyze propulsion systems which may include liquid, solid, and/or hybrid engine feed systems
Perform fluid and thermal analysis of complex fluid networks
Source and select components including valves, tanks, sensors, etc.
Work with vendors, as required, to acquire components which meet the performance requirements
Recommend instrumentation to support design verification and test activities
Support ground and flight tests, as required
Perform data analysis to support design verification and test activities
Develop engineering tools, as needed, to complete their tasking
Regular and comprehensive communication to the Propulsion Lead
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Travel, as needed, to support the department
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments
Qualifications
Knowledge of and experience with one or more of these disciplines: fluid system modeling and analysis, ground and/or flight test data analysis, fluid system valves and component selection, fluid subsystem architecture
Experience with fluid system modeling and analysis, including cryogenic systems
Experience with Monte Carlo modeling and analysis
Experience with propulsion ground testing, data reduction, and analysis
Experience with fluid system components such as valves and sensors
MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
Excellent written communication and documentation skills
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Complex aerospace system development
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 5-plus years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
