Stratolaunch, LLC Staff Avionics Engineer - Carrier Aircraft in Mojave, California
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch test platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to utilize the capabilities of the Stratolaunch Carrier Aircraft and air-launch test vehicles to enable development of technologies that may not exist otherwise.
Stratolaunch strives to create technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic, and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Staff Avionics Software Enginee r to complete the development of the carrier aircraft avionics and instrumentation systems. This position also includes development and implementation of other segments of the Stratolaunch architecture, which could include airborne support equipment, launch vehicle, and ground elements.
As a Senior Avionics Software Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting systems on the Stratolaunch carrier aircraft, a variety of air-launch vehicles, and other ground support activities.
You are responsible for the design, development, meeting requirements, performing verification activities, and test execution for software projects. You must be comfortable with component/system development and integration.
This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data. Candidates must have an aerospace development background and relevant experience in aerospace systems integration.
The role will support existing systems on the carrier Aircraft as well as new development on both the carrier aircraft and the Hyper-A vehicle.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Support the carrier aircraft avionics development, including working with current and new development systems
Support aircraft avionics technology development including developing the requirements, developing capabilities, and implementing software development and testing plans
Support the mission control center telemetry and data display systems contributing to flight test activities
Support integration of the carrier aircraft systems with launch vehicles
Perform requirement verification activities for the launch system
Perform test verification activities on the carrier aircraft and launch vehicle
Perform design and/or analysis to support component development
Perform test procedure development and test execution
Develop custom software to support carrier aircraft operations
Develop software to integrate custom and off the shelf systems on carrier aircraft and launch vehicle
Contribute to aerospace systems integration with requirements development and interface documentation
Develop engineering tools, as needed, to complete tasking
Provide technical guidance for projects within the larger program
Analyze test data for various projects
Evaluate risks and contribute to risk mitigation plans to determine if the risks are appropriate and risk mitigation are adequate
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Travel, as needed, to support projects
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

Required
Knowledge of and experience with one or more of these disciplines: software engineering, avionics, electronics, aircraft and/or launch vehicle integration
Experience with requirements development, with a focus on interface management
Excellent written communication and software documentation skills
Experience with risk management
Ability to communicate technical challenges and provide interface guidance to varied audiences to develop airborne and ground support systems. Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Complex aerospace system development
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
Preferred
Aircraft and/or launch vehicle development experience
Experience with government agencies
Experience with air-launch programs
Automated testing experience
Security clearance

Education/experience/certifications
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 8-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
