Stratolaunch, LLC Sr. Systems Engineer in Mojave, California
Position Summary
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Senior Systems Engineer to contribute to the integration of Talon-A into the Launch System. This position is responsible for leading the interface development across multiple vehicle disciplines, contributing to requirements development and vehicle verification planning. Additionally, this position will contribute to various system engineering processes such as configuration control, change management, and design standards. You are also responsible for helping to meet the technical performance of the Stratolaunch architecture, including meeting design and mission requirements, resolving technical challenges, and evaluating technology upgrades that improve the competitive basis of the Stratolaunch architecture. Additionally, you will provide technical leadership to the Engineering team by providing technical review of various systems on both the carrier aircraft and Talon-A. This position is based in Mojave, CA. Candidates must have strong Systems Engineering background, with experience in experimental aircraft development, and relevant experience in aircraft systems integration.
Essential duties and responsibilities
System-level engineering alongside the Chief Engineer, balancing design solutions across a complex system to meet the overall mission objectives
Requirements development and tracking
Requirements verification plan development and tracking
Interface development and resolution among the subsystem disciplines
Contribute to processes such as configuration control, change management, and design standards
Work with the team to develop test verification activities for the Talon-A vehicle and launch system
Contribute to flight test planning with a focus on how requirements will be verified during flight test
Help resolve technical challenges, as required
Evaluate risks and risk mitigations to determine if these are appropriate and adequate
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Travel, as needed, to support the company
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

Required
Knowledge of, and direct experience with, at least two of these disciplines: Systems Engineering, Electrical and Avionics Systems, Propulsion Systems, GNC and Flight Controls, Aerodynamics, and Mechanical Systems
Solid aerospace engineering fundamentals, across a wide breath of disciplines
Ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences to gain support or resolve concerns
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Complex aerospace system development
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
Preferred
JAMA experience
3D CAD (CATIA or Solidworks)
Required computer skills
- MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
Education/experience/certifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in engineering, physics, or mathematics from an accredited institution and 5-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience

Travel estimated to be approximately 10% or less
