Stratolaunch, LLC Sr. Software Engineer in Mojave, California
Position Summary
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic, and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Sr. Software Engineer to participate in the development and test of the flight control system and embedded systems. You will have ownership of GNC and vehicle subsystem simulation and test capabilities that contribute to the development and flight of the Talon-A hypersonic vehicle. You are responsible for contributing to the development of subsystem models, test plans, integration of models into both software and hardware simulation environments, and verification of flight software against requirements. This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Development of truth models of vehicle subsystems and dynamics in Matlab/Simulink
Support the development of GNC and embedded system software using a combination of C/C++ and model-based tools
Development of Processor-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop simulators
Generation of autocode from Matlab/Simulink
Integration of autocode with hand code
Debugging of integrated flight software and simulation software
Development of test plans and scripts for automated testing, per defined requirements
Execution of software on target hardware
Support and execute test events in the simulator and on the vehicle
Conduct bench tests of flight hardware, including INS, IMU, actuation, and flight computer subsystems
Verify proper data transfer between hardware components via multiple communication protocols (RS-422, ethernet, discrete, analog, etc.)
Regular and comprehensive communication to the Vehicle Management System Lead
Travel, as needed, to support the department
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments

Must demonstrate the ability to perform combinations of the Essential Responsibilities
Highly skilled in Matlab & Simulink tools
Highly skilled in software debugging
Experience with simulator development
Familiar with hardware necessary to execute and test software
Fundamental understanding of flight dynamics and aircraft systems
Ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences to explain rationale and/or resolve concerns
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
Preferred
Hardware in the loop simulator development experience
Aircraft, missile, and/or launch vehicle ground or flight test experience
Aircraft, missile, and/or launch vehicle development experience
Development or test of GNC algorithms
Dynamic system modeling of fixed wing, missile, and/or hypersonic vehicles
Requirements development: design, implementation, integration, test, & post-flight analysis
Familiarity with concurrent real-time simulation tools
Security clearance
Education/experience/certifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 5-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Remarks
Travel estimated to be approximately <5%
