Stratolaunch, LLC Sr. Mechanical Engineer in Mojave, California
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design various mechanical elements of the Talon-A vehicle. Tasking may include both flight and ground hardware. An ideal candidate will have mechanical design experience with aerospace flight hardware. You must be comfortable with supporting your design through the entire design life cycle – from conceptual through integration and test. This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data. Candidates must have an aerospace development background and relevant experience in aerospace systems integration.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Lead the design, build, and component level testing of mechanical hardware
Perform structural and thermal analysis of mechanical components and/or assemblies
Create component and assembly drawings for all hardware
Assist mechanics in integrating all components and assemblies onto the vehicle
Test components and/or assemblies to prepare for integrated ground testing
Develop engineering tools, as needed, to complete their tasking
Regular and comprehensive communication to the Talon-A Propulsion System Lead
Travel, as needed, to support the department
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

Required
Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: mechanical design, structural engineering, thermal analysis, fluid subsystem design, component or assembly level mechanical testing, electrical and/or instrumentation experience
Experience with ground test hardware, including releasing engineering definition and developing work instructions
Experience with metal component design, including weldments
Experience with component-level or subsystem level test planning and execution
Ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences to explain rationale and/or resolve concerns
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
Required Computer Skills
Computer Aided Design tools – Solidworks or CATIA V5
MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred
Experience with the design of ground support equipment
Experience with composite design
Security clearance
Education/experience/certifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 5-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
