Stratolaunch, LLC Sr. Avionics Engineer in Mojave, California
Position Summary
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Sr. Avionics Engineer to develop, integrate, test, and maintain the Data Acquisition System (DAS) and instrumentation components for its launch system. The vehicle data acquisition system is critical to mission success and interfaces with every subsystem, therefore this position will include collaborating with other system owners to understand requirements and engineer solutions. You must be comfortable with component/system development and integration. This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data. Candidates must have an aerospace development background and relevant experience in aerospace systems integration.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Design, integrate, program, and test a variety of data acquisition system hardware
Develop requirements for the data acquisition system and manage the configuration
Design wiring diagrams for a wide variety of acquisition hardware and instrumentation
Coordinate with other sub system leads to develop and execute test plans
Maintain the data acquisition system leading up to, during, and after flight test
Coordinate with engineers across a broad spectrum of disciplines to understand requirements and engineer technical solutions
Contribute to mission control and test activities
Support design reviews throughout vehicle development
Evaluate risks and risk mitigation plans to determine if the risks and mitigations are appropriate
Regular and comprehensive communication to the Avionics Lead on a weekly and monthly basis
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Travel, as needed, to support the department

Qualifications

Required Experience
Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: electrical engineering, avionics engineering, data acquisition systems, software engineering, electrical hardware engineering
Experience with configuring and maintaining a data acquisition IP network: IPv4, IEEE 1588 (PTP), UDP/TCP, etc.
Knowledge of data acquisition system design including: digital signal processing, analog/digital filters, and/or instrumenting cryogenic fluids, rocket engines, and high-temperature and high-vibration environments
Experience with a variety of aerospace instrumentation
Experience with electrical wiring diagram design
Experience with aircraft prototype development, including releasing Engineering definition and developing work instructions
Desire to work hands-on throughout the project lifecycle
Experience with troubleshooting, test planning, and test execution
Ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences to explain rationale and/or resolve concerns
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities

MIL-STD-810 and DO-160
Engineering computing languages/tools (e.g. LabVIEW, CVI LabWindows, C/C++)
Flight test experience
Experience with air-launch programs
Ability to obtain a security clearance
Education/experience/certifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 5-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Remarks
