Stratolaunch, LLC Simulink Applications Engineer in Mojave, California
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Simulink Applications Engineer to complete the development of the Stratolaunch System Simulator. This position also includes the path to leading the simulation of other segments of the Stratolaunch architecture, which could include airborne support equipment, launch vehicles, and ground elements.
As a Simulink Applications Engineer , you will be responsible for assisting in the development of the carrier aircraft flight Simulator. You are responsible for the design, development, meeting requirements, performing verification activities, and test execution for the Simulator. The Simulator will support further development of the carrier aircraft, flight crew training, and mission operations training. You must be comfortable with component/system development and integration, including numerical modeling of the aircraft and its systems, creation of real-time software and software/hardware integration with the simulator cab and flight hardware. This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data. Position will provide technical leadership for Stratolaunch. Candidates must have an aerospace development background and relevant experience in aerospace systems integration.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Support the simulator development, including working with current systems and new developments
Support mission control and flight crew training
Support updating the Simulation models based on flight test data
Support development of engineering requirements derived from flight crew interaction with the simulated flight environment
Support aircraft avionics technology development including developing the requirements, capabilities, and implementing flight software and hardware in a simulation environment
Support requirement verification activities in the flight dynamics, aircraft performance, flight controls, GNC, Avionics, and Flight Software engineering disciplines
Support test procedure development and test execution
Contribute to aerospace systems integration with interface and requirements development
Develop engineering tools, as needed, to complete engineering tasks associated with the Simulators.
Provide technical guidance for specific projects within the larger program with responsibility for technical performance of the project
Evaluate risks and risk mitigation plans to determine if the risks are appropriate and risk mitigations are adequate
Regular and comprehensive communication to Engineering leadership on a weekly basis
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Travel, as needed, to support the department
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

Required
Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: aerospace engineering, including aircraft flight dynamics and numerical modeling; real-time software development; electrical engineering; avionics; aircraft and/or launch vehicle integration; simulation environments (SIL, HIL)
Experience with technical aerospace leadership, including working with sub-contractors
Experience with requirements development, with a focus on interface management
Experience with risk management
Facilitation skills and ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences to gain support or resolve concerns
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Complex aerospace system development
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
Preferred
Aircraft and/or launch vehicle development experience
Experience with government agencies
Experience with air-launch programs
Simulink Experience (10+ years)
Required Computer Skills
Engineering software tools MATLAB, Simulink, C++, and FortranMS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Configuration management systems
Education/experience/certifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 5-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
