Stratolaunch, LLC Senior Hypersonic Aerodynamics / Performance Engineer, Advanced Design in Mojave, California

Stratolaunch is developing hypersonic vehicles to support various Department of Defense and commercial applications. Stratolaunch needs a Sr. Hypersonic Propulsion Engineer to support the conceptual design and analyses of hypersonic propulsion systems. Candidates must have a strong propulsion background, preferably with experience in hypersonic propulsion. Experience with aerospace vehicle design and propulsion analyses across the speed range from subsonic to hypersonic, is highly desired.

As a Sr. Hypersonic Propulsion Engineer , you will be a member of a small hypersonic advanced design team, reporting to the Stratolaunch Hypersonic Program Director. You will contribute to the propulsion design and integration of Stratolaunch hypersonic vehicles. You will perform conceptual design trade studies by parametrically evaluating a variety of air-breathing hypersonic propulsion systems, including ramjet, scramjet, and dual mode engines.

This position is based in Mojave, CA.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform analytical and numerical analyses to evaluate air-breathing hypersonic propulsion systems, such as including ramjet, scramjet, and dual mode engines.

  • Develop propulsion models for a variety of air-breathing hypersonic configurations.

  • Support design and vehicle integration of various types of hypersonic propulsion systems.

  • Contribute to development of propulsion models using analytical, numerical, and ground test data.

  • Contribute to advanced design tool development.

  • Help resolve technical challenges, as required.

  • Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems.

  • Support the preparation of business proposals to the US Government and industry.

  • Travel, as needed, to support the company.

  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments.

Required

  • Knowledge of, and experience in propulsion, preferably hypersonic propulsion, and aircraft/aerospace vehicle design.

  • Experience with subsonic, transonic, supersonic, and hypersonic propulsion design and analyses.

  • Strong background in propulsion, thermodynamics, internal fluid flow, and heat transfer.

  • Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals.

  • Complex aerospace system development.

  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities.

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance at the TS/SCI level.

Preferred

  • Hypersonic propulsion experience.

  • Experience with computer-aid design (CAD) software tools.

  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

  • Active security clearance.

Required computer skills

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Relevant propulsion analysis tools.

Education/experience/certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in engineering, physics, or mathematics from an accredited institution and 8-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special remarks regarding work environment

  • Travel estimated to be approximately 10% or less.

  • Position is based in Mojave, CA.
