Stratolaunch, LLC Senior Engineer - Flutter in Mojave, California
To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Flutter Principal Engineer to lead the flutter and other structural dynamics areas, such as evaluating interactions between aero structural interactions, leading the flight test flutter expansion, and ultimate clearing the Carrier Aircraft for mission readiness. This position will also support launch vehicle integration onto the Carrier aircraft and be key member when doing combined system envelope expansion.
As a Senior Flutter Engineer , you are responsible for leading the remaining structural dynamics evaluations of the carrier aircraft through its flight envelope expansion program and preparing for launch vehicle integration. As a Senior Flutter Engineer , you are responsible for finalizing the carrier aircraft’s structural dynamic performance and limits, including meeting design and mission requirements, resolving technical challenges, and implementing technology upgrades that improve the competitive basis of the Stratolaunch architecture. This position is based in Mojave, CA. Candidates must have strong aircraft development and operational background, facilities experience, and relevant experience in aircraft systems integration.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Leadership of flutter analyses, including evaluation of structural modes, reconstruction of ground and flight test data, and technical planning
Leadership of the area for evaluating the area of interactions between structures and the carrier aircraft flight controls, including how structural modes can excite flight controls movement and how flight control oscillations can excite structural modes
Help resolve technical challenges, as they arise, in the area of structural dynamics
Contribute to launch vehicle integration and ensure the carrier aircraft can accommodate launch vehicles and spacecraft
Contribute to risk evaluations for Air Launch programs
Evaluate risks and risk mitigation plans to determine if the risks are appropriate and risk mitigations are adequate
Regular and comprehensive communication to the department lead on a weekly and monthly basis
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Travel, as needed, to support the company

Direct experience leading or extensively participating in developmental flutter flight test on a new vehicle
Experience with technical aerospace leadership, including working with sub-contractors
Experience with risk management
The ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences to present technical solutions and resolve questions
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Complex aerospace system development
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
Experience with large transport aircraft
Experience with external stores

Required computer skills
CAD (CATIA, Solidworks, and/or CREO)
MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Finite Element Modeling
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from an accredited institution and/or 7-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
