Stratolaunch, LLC Senior Avionics Engineer - Hypersonics in Mojave, California
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Avionics Engineer II - Hypersonics to support development of the rocket-powered hypersonic vehicle avionics and instrumentation systems. This position also includes development and implementation of other segments of the Stratolaunch architecture, which could include airborne support equipment and ground elements.
As an Avionics Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting systems on the hypersonic vehicle and other ground and flight support activities. You are responsible for contributing to the design, development, meeting requirements, performing verification activities, and test execution for the hypersonic vehicle avionics. You must be comfortable with component/system development and integration. This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Support the hypersonic vehicle avionics development, including working with current and new development systems
Support aircraft avionics technology development including developing the requirements, capabilities, and test plans
Design and layout custom printed circuit boards
Support pre- and post-flight test activities
Support integration of the hypersonic vehicle with the carrier aircraft
Perform test verification activities on the hypersonic vehicle
Perform design and/or analysis to support component development
Perform test procedure development and test execution
Support custom software used for the hypersonic vehicle
Develop engineering tools, as needed, to complete tasking
Analyze test data for various projects
Evaluate risks and contribute to risk mitigation plans to determine if the risks are appropriate and risk mitigations are adequate
Regular and comprehensive communication to the Hypersonics Avionics Lead on a weekly and monthly basis
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Travel, as needed, to support projects

Knowledge of and experience with one or more of these disciplines: electrical engineering, avionics, electronics, software, aircraft and/or launch vehicle integration
Experience with requirements development, with a focus on interface management
Excellent written communication and documentation skills

Ability to communicate technical challenges and provide interface guidance to varied audiences to develop airborne and ground support systems. Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals

- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 3-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Travel estimated to be approximately 5+%
