Stratolaunch, LLC Quality Manager in Mojave, California

Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.

To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Quality manager to develop and implement the quality processes for the Stratolaunch program. This position will work with our Engineering and Operations team for both the carrier aircraft and payload development. This position will be based at our facility in Mojave, CA.

In this role, the selected candidate will be the focal point of Stratolaunch’s quality operations in Mojave. The ideal candidate will be able to take Stratolaunch’s draft Quality Management System and achieve initial implementation while continuing to build necessary processes. This role will have an important function shaping Stratolaunch’s Quality Management System, training Stratolaunch operations personnel, and instilling a culture where safety and quality are second-nature to our organization.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for all Quality functions for the Stratolaunch Company

  • Achieve initial implementation of Stratolaunch’s Quality Management System for all Mojave operations

  • Provide Quality inputs to Stratolaunch procedures (installation, assembly, operations, etc.)

  • Develop new Quality procedures where needed

  • Maintain Quality documentation

  • Develop and perform audits as required

  • Identify, investigate, and document non-conformances and quality escapes in accordance with the QMS

  • Represent Stratolaunch’s quality operations to suppliers, customers, and/or the FAA as required

  • Provide Quality inputs to Stratolaunch’s change management system

  • Serve as the focus of our process improvement efforts in Mojave

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily in order to meet the team goals. The minimum position requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform as the Staff Quality Engineer for mission ground operations.

Required

  • QMS experience in development, execution, and documenting compliance

  • In-depth knowledge of design, production, and operational aspects of the aerospace industry

  • Experience with AS9100 or similar quality standards

  • Experience in data analysis, process measurement, reporting methodologies, and Material Review Boards

Preferred

  • Experience implementing quality functions in new organizations

  • Familiarity with Commercial Space Flight operations and requirements

  • Experience with aerospace test activities

Required computer skills

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio)

  • Configuration Management Systems

Education/experience/certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in engineering field from accredited institution, and at least 10 years of experience in aerospace quality functions

Special remarks regarding work environment

  • Travel estimated to be approximately 10%

  • Position is based in Mojave, CA
