Stratolaunch, LLC Program Business Manager in Mojave, California

Position Summary

Stratolaunch is developing hypersonic vehicles to support various Department of Defense and commercial applications. Stratolaunch seeks a Program Business Manager to help with financial and schedule management of the Talon-A program, specifically the program spending forecasts and actuals. Candidates must have a strong finance background with experience in program management and program control methodologies common to the aerospace industry.

As the Talon-A Program Business Manager , you will work with the Hypersonics Program Director to evaluate the program spend and iterate monthly forecasts. You will analyze the actuals to evaluate trends, determine areas of concern, develop rationale for variances, and approve invoices, as required. You will also develop program forecasts on a monthly basis and help develop scenarios based on schedule updates. You will analyze critical path spending, help forecast future headcount, and contribute to risk analysis to develop mitigations for variances. You will work with the Stratolaunch finance department, schedule and planning within the Talon-A program, and participate in program monthly reviews, as needed.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis of the program financials, including developing rationale for financial variances, both on a monthly and yearly basis

  • Perform forecasting of the program spend, on a monthly basis, at a minimum, by working with the program planner and the sub-contracts team

  • Provide financial forecasts for various scenarios, including critical path forecasts and to help mitigate the potential of a program over spend

  • Contribute to the development of program management metrics for the Talon-A program and subsequent programs

  • Work with the subcontracting team to ensure subcontractors are delivering products on schedule and within budget

  • Contribute material to the monthly program review

  • Coordinate and help resolve program financial challenges, as required

  • Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems

  • Support the preparation of business proposals to the US Government and industry

  • Travel, as needed, to support the company

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: large aerospace program management, subcontracts and procurement, personnel management, aircraft systems, aircraft or launch vehicle operations, launch vehicle development, launch vehicle payload integration, ground systems

  • Experience with technical aerospace leadership, including working with subcontractors

  • Experience with program financial analysis, including variance analysis and developing forecasts

  • Experience and understanding of various tools and techniques associated with cost/schedule management to include Earned Value Management tools and processes

  • Experience with risk management

  • Ability to develop and analyze data, and present findings to customers and management

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and ability to implement sound critical thinking skills

  • Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance at the TS level

  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities


  • Experience with aircraft and/or launch vehicle integration

  • Experience with prototype manufacturing or low-rate production

  • Experience with large transport category or military aircraft

  • Experience with government agencies

  • Experience with classified programs and working in a classified environment

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or higher in an Engineering discipline and/or Business Management/Business Administration from an accredited institution and 7-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience

Special remarks regarding work environment

  • Travel estimated to be approximately 5%

  • Position is based in Mojave, CA
