Stratolaunch, LLC Intern - Summer 2022 in Mojave, California

Position Summary

Stratolaunch is developing hypersonic vehicles to support various Department of Defense and commercial applications. Stratolaunch needs new college graduates to support the design, analysis and test of subsonic aircraft and hypersonic vehicles. Candidates must be a sophomore, junior, or senior going to grad school working on an Engineering degree, preferably with experience through clubs, school competitions, hobbies, etc, in designing, building, and testing vehicles or systems.

As an Intern for Summer 2022 you will be a member of the Engineering team, working in the Stratolaunch Engineering department. You will contribute to the design, integration, and test of Stratolaunch operational vehicles. Openings exist in the Flight Sciences, Flight Controls, Structures, Avionics, Electrical, Propulsion, Mechanical Systems, and Materials Science areas.

This is a 10–12-week internship over summer of 2022, based in Mojave, CA

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Self-starter

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or similar

  • Support the design, analysis, and test of the Carrier Aircraft or Talon vehicles

  • Develop engineering tools as needed to complete tasks

  • Use engineering fundamentals or analysis software to analyze designs

  • Interface with manufacturing to build or test components

  • Interface within and between engineering teams to clarify requirements, communicate progress, and resolve issues

  • Write and execute test plans as needed

  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments

Required

  • Exceptional command of engineering fundamentals

  • Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals

  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to ask questions

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Hands-on engineering experience through internships, school projects, or teams

Preferred

  • Experience with 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software tools

  • Experience with Matlab, Python, Octave, or other computing software tools

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

Required computer skills

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Education/experience/certifications

  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior going to Graduate School working on an engineering degree

Special remarks regarding work environment

  • Travel estimated to be approximately 5% or less

  • Position is based in Mojave, CA
