Stratolaunch, LLC Equipment Controls & Automation Technician in Mojave, California
Position Summary
Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5+. Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms that enable routine access to the hypersonic environment. We deliver flight data critical to validating system performance and achieving rapid technology deployment. Stratolaunch is looking for a skilled individual with the ability to immerse themselves into the unique properties of composite manufacturing plant design and maintenance. Specifically, this person would be responsible for several large ovens including their electrical/computerized components, vacuum pumps and related systems, electronic controls and programming, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). This may include writing software for controls and include the build, maintenance, and testing skillsets relating thereunto. As a Equipment Controls & Automation Tech, you work in a manufacturing facility to ensure the daily operation runs smoothly, with a focus on the equipment and machinery.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the Stratolaunch mission by building, maintaining, and programming the unique and often proprietary components and equipment utilized in the manufacturing of composite parts which can include ovens and vacuum systems, ply cutters, proprietary “recipe” programming for composite curing, and accurate data recordation.
Lead as the on-site subject matter expert for understanding oven design, performing repairs and programming, and preventative maintenance.
The ability to recognize, trouble shoot, and work with both high and low voltage safely.
A working knowledge and proficiency in the following areas: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Vacuum, and Thermodynamics.
Ability to conduct software research & development including programming, trouble shooting, repair and set-up on small controls, PLC’s, factory automated controls and oven chart recording.
Ability to work with and communicate clearly and concisely technical information with consideration of your audience’s ability to understand it. Lead through regular communication with the manufacturing team to troubleshoot concerns, solve problems, and collaboratively aid them in achieving their program goals within time constraints.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with data acquisition, visualization, and storage methods/software for industrial systems.
Ability to create active monitoring and automated notification.
Experience with industrial control systems to include design, specification, and troubleshooting of programmable logic controllers (PLC), proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers, on-off controllers, and various graphical user interfaces (GUI) and related software. The ability to tune PID controllers via both automated routines and manually.
Experience authoring custom algorithms for the control of industrial systems with consideration of variables beyond setpoint (SP) and process value (PV).
Experience with a wide variety data transmission, communication, and modification techniques and standards such as: RS-232, RS-485, ethernet, analogue to digital conversion, and data filtering.
Experience with data acquisition, visualization, and storage methods and software for industrial systems including various paper recorders and ideally Watlow Specview SCADA software.
A working knowledge of thermocouples, Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD), thermistors, and pressure transducers including micro welding.
Works with facilities/maintenance group to establish a periodic maintenance/preventative maintenance interval plan for related equipment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Degree from accredited institution or trade school and 5-plus years of relevant experience. OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
