Stratolaunch, LLC Engineering Technician in Mojave, California

Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic, and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.

The individual operating in this capacity will be responsible for building and implementing engineering designs with a rapid prototype methodology. This includes a variety of applications, from hardware in the loop simulations to installations on the carrier aircraft, to helping with ground testing. Additionally, this individual is expected to contribute to design, integration between engineering and fabrication, developing analysis tools, and contributing to the detailed design of aerospace components. This position is also on the path to an engineering position. As Stratolaunch expands our program base this person may be tasked to other, new projects and in the development vehicles requiring the skills, knowledge and abilities utilized on this current project.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development and implementation of mechanical, avionics, and electrical systems for the carrier aircraft, ground test articles, carrier aircraft simulator, and medium launch vehicle

  • Detail design, engineering release, and integration with fabricators and installers, and installation for carrier aircraft systems and components Including:

  • Mechanical systems and components

  • Avionics and electrical components

  • Secondary structures

  • Joints and attachments

  • Release engineering detail design in accordance with program procedures

  • Revise engineering in accordance with program procedures

  • Ability to design, build, and/or set-up fixtures for testing

  • Execute tests, collect data, and/or help analyze the test results

  • Develop and provide guidance to fabricators and installers for written work instructions, technical manuals, engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics

  • Path to joining the Engineering team through additional education, including statics and dynamics, design, and electrical engineering

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience in aircraft systems of detail design, integration of engineering and fabrication, releasing engineering, in the specific disciplines of:

  • Mechanical systems and components

  • Avionics and electrical components

  • Secondary structures

  • Joints and attachments

  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques for the specific materials of a component

  • A strong understanding of the importance of FOD control

  • Ability to work within an engineering release system

  • Detail oriented – strong attention to detail

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophies and tools a plus.

  • Personnel safety mentality – not just work safely, but promote a culture of safety

  • Honesty, responsibility, accuracy, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

  • Ability to problem solve and adapt quickly to changing priorities

  • Ability to work independently, responsible, take the initiative

  • Physically able to handle items weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Other duties as determined/assigned by management

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working with building aerospace parts and tools

  • 7+ years of experience in aircraft systems fabrication and installation

  • This position is located in Mojave, Ca.

  • This position may require travel to offsite locations depending on aircraft dispatch location
