Stratolaunch, LLC Engineering Technician II, Thermal Protection System in Mojave, California
POSITION SUMMARY
Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5+. Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms that enable routine access to the hypersonic environment. We deliver flight data critical to validating system performance and achieving rapid technology deployment. Together with our customers, we drive innovations that are imperative to advancing national security.
To help achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch is seeking an Engineering Technician II for the Thermal Protection System (TPS) of hypersonic flight vehicles. This position includes continued development and implementation, as well as process improvement, for laying out thermal materials, designing the components, and attachment methods. As a Thermal Protection Engineering Technician, you are responsible for contributing to the vehicle’s technical performance, including meeting design and mission requirements, resolving technical challenges, and implementing technology upgrades that improve the competitive basis of the Stratolaunch architecture.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the integration of the Thermal Protection System onto the high speed vehicle
Participate in the thermal system detailed design and lead the layout of the Thermal Protection System components, leading to release of Engineering definition and work orders
Design various secondary/support structure for mounting the Thermal Protection System on the high speed vehicle
Perform bench tests, as required, to define the optimal installation methods for thermal materials
Work closely with the thermal analyst to implement material systems that meet project objectives
Collaborate with the shop to properly install the thermal materials in order to meet vehicle requirements
Resolve technical challenges, as they arise, for the high speed vehicle and its integration with the carrier aircraft
Evaluate risks and develop risk mitigation plans for the Thermal Protection System
Regular and comprehensive communication to project leads
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Travel, as needed, to support the company
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

Required Qualifications & Skills
Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: high temperature materials, structures, composites, mechanical systems, aircraft systems, aircraft operations
Significant hands-on aircraft build experience
Experience with composite manufacturing
Experience with technical aerospace leadership, including working with sub-contractors
Facilitation skills and ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences to present technical solutions and resolve questions
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Complex aerospace system development
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
3D CAD experience
U.S. Person

Mojave Air & Spaceport is located 95 miles north of Los Angeles.
