Stratolaunch, LLC DAS Engineer - Carrier Aircraft in Mojave, California
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs an Data Acquisition System (DAS) Engineer to lead the architecture development and implementation of the data acquisition and instrumentation to support the aircraft and launch system. This position will develop the requirements for the new mission-critical DAS, as well as developing the architecture to meet these needs by working with the Launch System and Carrier Aircraft teams as well as the crew, networking, electrical, and avionics teams
You are responsible for contributing to the design, development, meeting requirements, performing verification activities, and test execution for the combined Carrier Aircraft & Talon system. You must be comfortable with component/system development and integration. This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Lead Carrier Aircraft & Integrated DAS development including adding capability for launch vehicles and design/development of a new Data Acquisition System to interface with multiple data types and nodes
Train and act as primary DAS lead in mission control center
Maintain and upgrade the current DAS and instrumentation systems on the carrier aircraft
Act as central contact for any DAS expansion/addition requests, this includes coordinating with the RE’s on hardware procurement, installation, calibration and checkouts
Wire diagram generation/modification
Hardware and Software Configuration Management
Generation of Installation and Build Definition
Shop/Manufacturing Support and Guidance
Support pre- and post-flight test activities
Support custom software used in the integrated system
Evaluate risks and contribute to risk mitigation plans to determine if the risks are appropriate and risk mitigations are adequate
Regular and comprehensive communication to the Carrier Aircraft Avionics Lead on a weekly and monthly basis
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Travel, as needed, to support projects

Knowledge of and experience with one or more of these disciplines: electrical engineering, avionics, electronics, software, aircraft and/or launch vehicle integration
Experience with requirements development, with a focus on interface management
Excellent written communication and documentation skills
Experience with risk management
Ability to communicate technical challenges and provide interface guidance to varied audiences to develop airborne and ground support systems. Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals

- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 3-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Travel estimated to be approximately 5+%
