Stratolaunch, LLC Avionics Engineer II in Mojave, California
Position Summary
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs an Avionics Engineer II to support development of the Talon-A hypersonic vehicle avionics, electrical, and data systems. This position also includes development and implementation of other segments of the Stratolaunch architecture, which could include airborne support equipment, ground elements, and ground testing.
As an Avionics Engineer II, you will be responsible for supporting systems on Talon-A and other ground and flight test activities. You are responsible for contributing to the design, development, meeting requirements, performing verification activities, and test execution for the Talon-A avionics system. You must be comfortable with component/system development and integration. This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Support the Talon-A vehicle avionics development, including working with current and new development systems
Support the integration of avionics hardware on the vehicle including creation of wiring diagrams, shop liaison support, and procedure writing
Support ground testing of avionics hardware by writing and executing test plans and creating test reports
Support ground and flight testing of the Talon-A vehicle by troubleshooting avionics, electrical, and instrumentation issues
Perform analysis to support design of the avionics subsystem, as required
Support pre- and post-flight test activities
Support integration of Talon-A with the carrier aircraft
Develop engineering tools, as needed, to complete tasking
Analyze test data and make recommendations for corrective action to the subsystem lead
Regular and comprehensive communication to the Talon-A Avionics Lead on a weekly basis
Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
Travel, as needed, to support projects
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

Required
Knowledge of and experience with one or more of these disciplines: electrical engineering, avionics, electronics, software development
Experience with data acquisition systems
Experience creating wiring diagrams and writing shop definition
Excellent written communication and documentation skills
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
Complex aerospace system development
Preferred
Experience with ACRA DAS hardware
Experience with LabView
Experience with automated testing
Circuit design experience
Security clearance
Required Computer Skills
Experience in C/C++, Python, XML
Experience with UDP/TCP and PCM
MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Configuration management systems
Education/experience/certifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 2-plus years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
