Stratolaunch, LLC Aerodynamics Engineer II in Mojave, California

Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic, and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and execute both low and high speed wind tunnel tests

  • Select instrumentation for wind tunnel and flight testing

  • Design and procure wind tunnel models

  • Analyze wind tunnel data

  • Analyze flight test data

  • Update aerodynamic models

  • Perform flight dynamics simulations

  • Analyze vehicle performance and flying qualities

  • Document inputs, assumptions, and limitations

  • Support vehicle design and trade studies, as requested

  • Support flight test planning and preparation, as requested

  • Support additional tasks as requested

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering or similar

  • 2+ years of experience in aerodynamics or related field

  • Experience planning and executing wind tunnel tests

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail

Special remarks regarding work environment, if applicable

  • This position is located in Mojave, CA

  • Frequent travel required to Washington D.C., Mojave Spaceport, and other domestic locations
